Townville - FNQ - Sept 2022

This trip to Townsville incorporated a trip to Magnetic Island, a place I have long wanted to fish. Upon catching up with cousin Brad, Dot and Anna, we headed to a local tackle store to stock up on a mix of blue water top water lures and some skipping lures for barra n jacks. However the wind gods were unkind. We were blown off the water at Maggie Island. Albeit a fabulous mini holiday with Untie Elaine, Dot, Anna, Brad, Sharon and myself accommodated in perfect luxury at one of Brad n Dots friends villas on the island. Thanks Dawn :-)

Luckily a few days after the Maggie Island trip we had pre booked a barra guide from Cairns to meet us halfway between Cairns and Townsville. I had fished with Rory a month ago and was keen for Brad to learn some new tricks relevant to FNQ barra rivers.

All in all it was a great day, albeit it rained its arse out the night before which made the water muddy. Very unseasonable for FNQ at that time of year. But Rory worked hard to not just focus on boating fish, but pass on knowledge that I am sure will assist Brad and I to find more fish closer to Townsville on future adventures. It's remarkable how different these FNQ rivers are from Darwin and surrounds. We only boated 3 Barra, but the 79cm  saltwater slapper I got near the end of the day was a cracker. Brad also dropped a solid barra in the same area.

It's was a big day for Rory to travel so far from is young family, but I cant recommend him enough. If you are in FNQ and want a crack at some barra get in touch with Rory. Tropical Sport Fisher.
