Apr 2011 - Berkeley River-The Kimberley- Clive Camo & Denise

This trip is high on my top 10 list. It was epic in so many ways.

Camo and Denise were part way into their big sailing adventure when we met them in Darwin.  By the time they were due to continue their epic sail west toward the Kimberley we had become good friends. Never one to miss an opportunity I hatched a plan which they agreed to. They would take all our beer, water, fuel and food with them. We would give them a month head start to get to the mouth of the Ord River in East Kimberley. Clive and I then towed Clive 535 Seajay to Wyndam. We had pre- arranged somewhere safe to leave the vehicle and trailer. We would then steam down the mighty Ord river to rendezvous with Camo and Denise. Having given all our heavy stuff to them to carry on the yacht we could do the run with just emergency provisions. This sounds simple, but if the yacht didn't make it we would have had a very worrying wait before aborting which would have been a very anxious run back up the Ord river with bugger all provisions and only just enough fuel.

Fortunately after an anxious hour sitting in the rendezvous we were elated to see Reverey sail around the point. Cold beer has never tasted better then when we stepped aboard.

The following morning we used the yacht to tow the tinny around to the Berkeley River. I had expectations of how amazing this part of the Kimberley would be but I was taken a back with just how scenic it is.

The fishing was amazing with Camo boating a metre plus Barra being the highlight.

Exploring the water falls and walking up the fresh water creeks that flow over the falls was amazing.
