It was on the 2014 trip to West Anhem Land with Ash and Tulls (B1) that we first unveiled “The Throb”.
Now most Darwinites will know the Throb as an un-inhibited nightclub in central Darwin, but for us it was a lure of endless possibility for fishing the estuarine waters for Barra.
Handmade and shaped from a discarded champagne cork this surface lure was painted in striking Red, Black and White the “Throb” had a popper bib made from a flattened Melbourne Bitter beer bottle top.
Not quite sure of the weight in ounces nor grams, but while the cork floated it was heavy enough to cast over 30 meters or so.
Worked as a popper or surface lure, the “Throb” was remarkable in attracting bites from a variety of fish Barra, Archer fish, Threadfin, Bream, Queenfish, Flathead and even a delicious Mudcrab were all taken by the Throb – and we have the photographs to prove it. See Below.
